Compassion & Authenticity
I embrace the traditional values of developing a trusting and comfortable relationship with clients. The relationship I build is my priority and the primary means to help you feel better. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts/beliefs, feelings, sensations, memories, and behaviors – particularly those aspects that may be causing you distress, blocking progress towards your life goals, or getting in the way of finding fulfillment and meaning in your relationships. As a psychologist, I will draw on my training to provide you with knowledge, insight, skills, and support that can guide you in the direction you are seeking.
Expertise & Philosophy
My orientation is based in the foundations of traditional Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic and Attachment-based psychotherapies. Additionally, I draw from a number of other cognitive, behavioral, and somatic modalities to appropriately address the specific needs of my client(s).
I help people with:
Depression, anxiety, and phobias
PTSD and trauma
Relationships and marital distress
Addiction and opiate dependency
ADHD
OCD and perfectionism
Eating disorders and self-harm behaviors
Family/friend relationship issues
Loss and grief
Life transitions and personal growth
Retirement and coping with aging
Somatic issues
Chronic pain
The following are treatment philosophies that most influence my work with individuals:
Biopsychosocial Approach
Psychological processes (thoughts/beliefs, feelings, & behaviors) are influenced by your unique personality traits, bodily processes, & life events. Therapy will address all elements of your lifestyle and well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Provides a direct examination of a specific problem(s) by focusing on the interaction of thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns- this allows for change.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Physical sensations associated with a traumatic event become trapped in the body. This body-centered approach allows for mindful awareness and relief of these somatic symptoms.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Make sense of your past to cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself. By learning about what is often outside of your conscious awareness, you will gain a greater sense of control in your present life.
Mindfulness Meditation
The practice of being aware of your present-moment experiences without trying to “push it away” or getting “tangled up” in it – this allows for actions to be taken with greater reflection & self-compassion.
Attachment-focused EMDR
A therapy that incorporates bilateral stimulation – helping you to rapidly reprocess traumatic experiences & release disturbing images, emotions, bodily sensations, and restricting beliefs.
The following are treatment philosophies that most influence my work with couples:
Differentiation-based Crucible Therapy
Learn to tolerate the difficulty of being “different” from your partner and hold onto your sense of self while in relationship with one another.
The Gottman Method
Relationship conflict is natural and inevitable. Learn practical skills to improve the friendship, closeness, and understanding in your relationship and “manage” conflict in a positive way.
Emotion-Focused Therapy
Helps change problematic emotional states and unwanted self-experiences to create new, safe, and secure ways of interacting with one another.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Discover the unconscious”root” of the emotional hurt that causes your negative pattern of relating. By learning to dialogue with empathy & validation, you’ll begin to understand one another at a deeper level to resolve conflict, heal, and grow together.
I work with adolescents, adults, and couples.
